In collaboration with Hunter Water and local teachers from around the Newcastle region, we built a fun behavioural change app to help Australian school children save water in the face of one of Australia's worst ever droughts.
The solution uses applied learning techniques over a 28 day period to make kids more aware of the water they use personally at home. We used gamification reward principles aimed at making the learning elements more engaging for the kids. Since first release the web app has been used in a number of Australian schools in NSW.
Using isometric perspective i illustrated the world which animates between levels whenever a new goal is reached by the child.
We started the project with a research phase which guided our decision making throughout the process and helped us avoid risk. When the first MVP was released we gathered feedback, collected data and conducted workshops with the school kids which really helped us to determine quickly what we needed to improve on.
After releasing the beta product and testing it on a number of schools we conducted a discovery workshop with the school kids to find out potential gaps in the experience and ways we could improve. This proved really insightful, and was extremely valuable for us in the next iteration.
We are currently in the process of further developing the beta into a fully scalable product, and we have also started working on dashboard interfaces for the various stakeholders.
